About

Armstrongs Group and Armstrongs Dimensional Stone

We have been in the quarry and logistics industry for 35 years and always operated from the Northwest – with strong ties to the Lancashire and Greater Manchester areas. Armstrongs Dimensional Stone is the trading name for this division of the Armstrongs Group, our entry into the cut stone sector began with the purchase of Brinscall Quarry over 15 years ago, supplying high quality blockstone to production and manufacturing companies.

In 2012 we purchased Waddington Fell Quarry, fully equipped with stone cutting workshops and saws; this was a great extension to our dimensional stone division allowing further growth. The whole division now operates solely from Brinscall Quarry.

In 2014 Armstrong’s invested in Shap Pink Quarry in Cumbria, allowing the division to include a truly great British Granite in our product portfolio.

Brinscall Quarry

Brinscall Quarry was originally opened over 100 years ago to satisfy the demand for natural stone from local builders. The block can be seen in several local properties looking as good now as the day they were built. However, Brinscall Gritstone Block has gone much further afield in the course of its history and contributed significantly to the building of the North West’s motorway system and as well some impressive, prominent, and historical buildings.

Such was the demand for the high quality Brinscall Block Stone that at one time the quarry even had a railhead to help satisfy the demand. Nowadays distribution methods have changed and although there are no plans to re-establish a rail link, Armstrongs have re-established the sales of quality Brinscall Block Stone to a wide geographical area.

Since 2014 Brinscall Quarry has been supplying Block stone and cut stone to the Basilica de la Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, the ongoing project to finally complete the grand vision of Antoni Gaudi, initially commenced in 1882.

Shap Pink Granite Quarry

Shap Pink Quarry is famous for its Granite, very distinctive, rich in feldspar, mica, quartz and very large porphyritic crystals of pink orthoclase. This is of great interest to geology students, and we have regular monthly visits from universities and colleges across the country.

Shap Pink Granite has been used for many years the length and breadth of the country, and has now also been exported to America, Spain, and Australia. Closer to home it has been used around the Cumbria region for memorial stones for over 100 years.

We can supply Shap Pink Granite as raw block, scant or bespoke cut designs.
